Sister M. Visitation Bergan, IHM

Sister M. Visitation Bergan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, May 3, 1906 at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on December 1, 1868 in Waymart, Pennsylvania, and given the name Elizabeth. She was the daughter of Mary Farley Bergan and the late Patrick Bergan. Before entering the community, Elizabeth was a teacher in the Mayfield public schools. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1893, received the religious habit on May 24, 1894, and made profession of her vows on July 2, 1896.
Sister Visitation served as a teacher at St. Paul School in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Thomas, Andrew, and Gerald, and two sisters, Anna and Nellie.
In addition to her mother, Mary Bergan of Mayfield, PA; Sister is also survived by three brothers, Patrick H. Bergan, Jr. of Huntington, PA, Kieran of Fairmount, WV, and John of Mayfield, and a sister, Mary of Mayfield.
The funeral will be on Saturday, May 5 at 9 o’clock in Mount St. Mary’s Seminary chapel, followed by interment in the sister’s plot at Marywood College. Friends may call on Friday at the Seminary.
