Sister M. Maria Loughlin, IHM

Sister M. Maria Loughlin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, January 12, 1957.

She was born on April 20, 1877 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Gleason Loughlin. She entered the IHM Congregation on June 28, 1894, received the religious habit on January 24, 1895, and made profession of her vows on February 2, 1897.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.

The shock of Sister Maria Loughlin’s death is softened by the loving memories which she has left in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her. Hers was the gentle, refined, courteous spirit which endeared her to all. Pioneering in a western mission or overcoming physical disability were God-given opportunities whereby she augmented the spirit of joy which always characterized her. In the words of a priest who knew her well: “She had the great charm that comes from an inner goodness.” Hers was a spirit of joy. Her wonderful Community spirit transcended difficulties. All who were privileged to know her caught some of the spirited joy she so gently radiated.
