Sister M. Emerentia Biglin, IHM

July 22, 1902 – April 12, 1936

Sister M. Emerentia Biglin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, April 12, 1936, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

She was born on July 22, 1902 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Paula. She was the daughter of Charles and Jane (Jennie) Gavin Biglin. She entered the IHM Congregation on May 6, 1922, received the religious habit on August 15, 1922, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1924. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marywood College.

Sister Emerentia served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA; St. Alphonsus School in New York, NY; and St. Patrick High School in Olyphant, PA.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother.

In addition to her parents, Sister Emerentia is also survived by a sister, Aileen and three brothers, James Patrick, Charles Gavan, and Raymond.

The funeral will be on Tuesday, April 14 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Olyphant, followed by interment at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Carbondale. Friends may call at St. Patrick’s Convent, Olyphant, on Tuesday after 2 p.m.
