Sister M. Camilla Kirsch, IHM

August 11, 1905 – June 5, 1996

Sister M. Camilla Kirsch, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, June 5, 1996 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on September 11, 1905 in Nicktown, Pennsylvania, and given the name Carmelita Marie. She was the daughter of the late Philip and Anna Dalton Kirsch. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1942, received the religious habit on August 3, 1942, and made profession of her religious vows on August 2, 1944.

Sister Camilla served as a teacher at St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1944 to 1951; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1967 to 1969; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; St. Henry Elementary School in Gresham, OR; St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA; as well as at schools located in Pittsburgh and Lock Haven, PA, and Baltimore, MD.

From 1984 until the time of her death, Sister Camilla served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sister M. Marcellus Kirsch, IHM, and four brothers, Matthew, Regis, Marcellus (Mark) and Robert.

She is survived by a sister, Emma Jean Morin of Pittsburgh, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, September 8 with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call on Friday at the Marian Convent after 2:00 p.m.
