Sister M. Agnes Cecilia Mangan, IHM

Sister M. Agnes Cecilia Mangan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Saturday, June 4, 1983 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.
She was born on August 11, 1908 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and was given the name Mary A. She was the daughter of the late Malachi and Mary Agnes McDonnell Mangan. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1928, received the religious habit on August 15, 1928 and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1930.
Sister Agnes Cecilia served as a music teacher at the following schools: St. Ephrem in Brooklyn, NY; St. Basil in Dushore, PA; St. Mary in Hollidaysburg, PA; and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel in Dunmore, PA; and at schools located in North Carolina. She also served as a music teacher at: Holy Name of Mary Catechetical Center in Montrose, PA; St. Peter Catechetical Centerin Wellsboro, PA; and St. Patrick Catechetical Centerin Milford, PA.
From 1979 until the time of her death, Sister Agnes Cecilia served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James (infant) and Paul Malachi.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Catherine Mangan of Pittson, PA, and a nephew, Paul Mangan of Watertown, Massachusetts.
The funeral will be Wednesday, June 8 with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon or evening.
