Everyday English for Adults
Sponsored by the Sisters of IHM, the Everyday English for Adults Program is offered to adults in need of English Language proficiency. Initially founded to assist the growing immigrant population in Scranton, Everyday English for Adults provides crucial communication skills for interacting with doctors, school administrators, merchants and neighbors. This proficiency extends to the workplace, enabling learners to assert themselves on matters such as fair wages, working conditions, and hours.

The program is administered by Sister Ruthanne Gypalo, with numerous sisters and dedicated lay volunteers serving as instructors and supporters. Classes primarily take place in the evenings to accommodate both volunteers’ schedules and learners’ work commitments, although day programming options are also available.
