National Catholic Sisters Week

Dear Sisters, Associates and Friends,

National Catholic Sisters Week will be celebrated on March 8 – 12. In the past we have housed the students from Holy Names Academy, Florida and Sister Lisa Perkowski for a service week, made sandwiches and lunches one year, had an Open House another year! We went as a group of sisters to work at the Joy of Sox warehouse last year.

This year with the pandemic and restrictions of COVID, I am reaching out to you to do a safe service project in honor of women religious.

This year I am hoping for donation to The Joy of Sox©

You can learn more about them and read stories of the impact on the homeless on The Joy of Sox© website here: https:// thejoyofsox.org

Usually the donations go to Philadelphia where the Joy Of Sox© is located but we were able to bring back bags of socks for our local area when we went for the day of service. Because of safety concerns of all and to eliminate the trip to Philadelphia during COVID, Nancy and Tom Costello (CEO and founder) thought the idea of collecting here in Scranton and distributing here in Scranton was a great idea.

We are hoping for a large collection of practical socks for women, children, babies, teenagers, men. Socks to be worn for school, work, and walking.

For Those Who Do Not Live in Scranton – Initiate a sock drive for a shelter, hand out socks at a food pantry or place where a hot meal is provided. Find out where the need is!

For Those Who Live in Scranton – drop off boxes will be provided at the side door of McCarty Hall across from Immaculata Hall at Marywood or inside the front vestibule of Our Lady of Peace Residence.

For Those Who Live and Work at the IHM Center – drop off socks in Sister Mindy’s office, or at a box near the back elevator, or in the mailroom. Monetary Donations Will Be Accepted – by Sister Mindy Welding, IHM at 2300 Adams Avenue, McCarty Hall, Scranton, PA 18509. I will buy the socks for you!

Schools, Colleges, and Parishes Can Get Involved – We are hoping for a large collection of socks for women, children, babies, teenagers and men at St. Francis Soup Kitchen, St. Joseph’s Baby Pantry, McAuley Center, NEPA Youth Shelter, Women’s Resource Center and Friends of the Poor. We need everyone to help out!

IF YOU collect and donate socks in areas outside Scranton – please record the number of socks collected and the places and number where they were donated. Report this information to Sister Mindy:  sismindy@gmail.com

Thank you everyone! If you have any questions, write to sismindy@gmail.com
