IHM Congregation Statement on Violence at US Capitol

JANUARY 2021

With our neighbors around the world, we, Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, watched in horror as scenes of violence, hatred, and disregard for life and property unfolded in the area of the United States Capitol in Washington, DC. We decry the divisive rhetoric and attitudes which contributed to this tragedy. We grieve the wounding of a nation’s soul and the attempts to fracture its sometimes fragile democracy.

As we continue to pray for a peaceful transfer of power, and peace for all, we call on both our leaders and our citizens to revisit and embrace the founding dream of a more perfect union. May we come together as agents of healing who work towards the fullness of justice and the well-being of all people, without exception, in the days ahead.
